Best Time to Visit Coorg from Bangalore (Month-by-Month Guide)
When is the best time to visit Coorg from Bangalore? Month-by-month breakdown of Coorg weather, crowds, road conditions, and which season suits which kind of trip.
The short answer is October to February — clear skies, cool temperatures, waterfalls still running from the tail of the monsoon. That’s accurate but incomplete. The right month for your trip depends on what you’re looking for and what you’re willing to trade off.
Here’s what each month actually looks like in Coorg.
October to February — the peak season
October
One of the best months to visit. The monsoon has just ended, which means the landscape is intensely green, waterfalls are still flowing strongly, and the air is clean and cool (17–26°C in the day). Crowds start picking up from mid-October. This is also the time of Kodava harvest festivals — a genuine cultural layer for those interested.
November and December
Peak season. Temperatures are cool (10–22°C), mornings can be misty, evenings are genuinely cold by Bangalore standards. Great weather, but this comes with peak pricing and weekend bookings that fill quickly. Book at least 2–3 weeks in advance for premium properties. December especially around Christmas and New Year sees heavy demand and price surges.
January and February
Still excellent. January is slightly cooler (8–20°C), February begins to warm. Crowds thin a little after the January first week. Coffee blossoms appear in February — a jasmine-like scent across the estates that makes the trip feel distinctly Coorg. February is arguably the most underrated month to visit.
March to May — the shoulder season
March
Warming up (22–30°C) but still very manageable. Fewer crowds than winter peak, better availability and slightly lower prices. Waterfalls are mostly dry by now. A good choice if you want comfort without fighting for hotel slots.
April and May
Hot (28–34°C), particularly in the lower elevations. Estate areas at higher altitude are more comfortable. Pre-monsoon showers can start in May — some find this adds atmosphere. Not the most comfortable travel months but not unpleasant if you’re at a resort with a good pool.
June to September — the monsoon
June, July, August — heavy monsoon
Coorg receives some of the heaviest rainfall in South India during this period. The landscape is extraordinarily green and atmospheric — waterfalls are at full force, coffee estates look their best. However: leeches are present in forest and trekking areas, some roads become difficult after heavy rain, and outdoor activities are severely limited.
For first-time visitors, June–August is not recommended. For experienced travellers who specifically want the monsoon experience and are prepared for it, it can be memorable. Not suitable for hiking or activity-heavy itineraries.
September
Tail end of monsoon. Still occasional heavy rain but starting to clear. Waterfalls are at their absolute peak — Abbey Falls, Iruppu Falls, and others are spectacular. Leeches are still present in forest areas but decreasing. A transitional month — better than July/August, not yet as reliable as October.

On pricing and availability
Peak season (October–February) means tighter availability and higher hotel prices. The best estate properties get booked out 2–4 weeks ahead for weekends in this window. If you’re planning a November or December Coorg trip, start the conversation early.
March–May and September offer better value and more flexibility. If your dates are flexible, these months give you a good Coorg trip at lower cost and without the weekend scramble.
